If Algorithms Came with IKEA Instructions ...

Some Professors put together IKEA inspired instructional booklets for their algorithms and data-structures lecture. 

So far they've created assembly instructions for Quick Sort, BOGO Sort, Public Key Crypto, Binary Search, Merge Sort, Balance Tree, Graph Scan, and One Stroke Draw algorithms.

This is a pretty cool idea, or at least I thought so. My youngest son said "I don't particularly understand IKEA directions or algorithms so this is basically the worst of both worlds for me."  Finally, we agree about something.

What Is The Internet of Things?

The Internet of Things (IoT) is literally just a connected network of digital "things" that can interact with each other through the internet (or intranets). 

Yet, the IoT also represents a paradigm shift (and the next big upgrade to the web). By 2020, over 26 billion (with a b) things will be connected to the internet.

 

But how does it work, and why do you care?

 

Information Is Beautiful created a helpful interactive primer on the IoT that's worth a look.

Ultimately, things like cars, buildings, home appliances and wearables will communicate and interact to create a connected world. 

People's homes are already becoming more connected. With smart hubs you can control your alarms, your lights and HVAC, all the way down to starting your coffee machine. 

Now imagine that connectivity in a hospital or a supply chain. It's going to be a huge breakthrough. 

 

But what about challenges?

 

As we get more technologically advanced and interconnected, there are inherent issues and weaknesses. 

For example, as more devices access the internet you have more chances for attacks by hackers. 

Computers, smartphones and other devices often come with virus protection, security measures and more. The same isn't true of your fridge or your coffee machine...

If there's one vulnerability in your network, that can easily affect all other devices on your network. 

In fact, hacker's just stole a Casino's high roller database through a "smart" thermometer in their lobby aquarium. 

As well, there are privacy issues, bandwidth issues and the unfortunate reality for many companies which is ... you may not be nimble enough to keep up with this innovation landscape.

Capitalogix expands into Tibet and the Dalai Lama is named Supreme Trading Officer

Capitalogix reaches new heights with an office in Tibet.

His Holiness, the Dalai Lama accepted the Position as Supreme Trading Officer.

He said, "while Hope and Prayer may not be traditionally great trading strategies, it can't hurt."

In an effort to bring trading returns to a "higher level," Capitalogix Trading is proud to announce that it has opened new offices in Tibet. Tibet is, of course, the highest region on earth with an average elevation of 16,000 feet, and is sometimes referred to as "The Roof of the World".

According to Howard Getson, President and CEO of Capitalogix Trading, "Over the last year Capitalogix Trading has been in the process of expanding our geographical reach, and after much consideration, we have decided to open up an office in a place that will give us a new perspective symbolically as well as physically."

Capitalogix has been re-positioning itself as "Transformative Financial Technology" and its mission is to create "amazing wealth" and do work that helps create more authentic connections with people and has a greater human impact.

Mr. Getson added, "The office in Tibet will provide the strategic and spiritual leadership necessary for Capitalogix to accomplish its far-reaching goals."

How Blockchain Will Eventually Disrupt Every Industry

Recently, I shared an infographic with 25 notable cryptocurrencies and restated that the support technologies for coins (specifically, blockchain and smart contracts) are more exciting than any individual currency. 

Blockchain is radically changing the future of transaction-based industries. Industry leaders are fervently evaluating and exploring blockchain to determine its potential for disruption, and for developing a long-term strategic advantage over their competitors.  

Blockchain is disruptive because of its ability to digitize, decentralize, and secure the validation of "transactions".  Everywhere there's a hand-off of information or goods, blockchain has the opportunity to improve that process. 

Imagine being able to see the entire history of a property, and know it's accurate. Imagine being able to track individual shipments globally through your supply-chain with ease. Imagine being able to enter/exit countries without the elongated passport check-ins. 

The list goes on ... Aviation, Big Pharma, Manufacturing, Finance, SaaS ... In the same way that artificial intelligence is transforming what's done by humans and what's done by machines, the blockchain is transforming security and how we transfer data. If data is the new currency, blockchain is the banking system. 

Blockchain enables transparency and accountability on a radically bigger scale.

I've said this before, but it's worth echoing ...  Some of what was once Impossible becomes Possible.   Some of what became Possible becomes Probable.  And, and some of what became Probable becomes Inevitable.

Blockchain is happening.  Technological shifts,  like this, require you to think about your industry and your potential opportunity differently.

Change is happening faster (and creating bigger edges) than ever before.
