Why Muslims Are The World’s Fastest-Growing Religious Group

According to the Pew Research Center report projecting the future of religious groups, Muslims will grow more than twice as fast as the overall world population between 2010 and 2050.

This report projects that Muslims will likely surpass Christians as the world’s largest religious group in the second half of this century.

While the world’s population is projected to grow 35% in the coming decades, the number of Muslims is expected to increase by 73% – from 1.6 billion in 2010 to 2.8 billion in 2050.

The main reasons for Islam’s growth ultimately involve simple demographics. To begin with, Muslims have more children than members of the seven other major religious groups analyzed in the study.

It comes down to a simple birth vs. death calculation. For example, look at the number of children at typical married couple has in different countries. In general, two people have to 'make' two people in order for the birth and death rates to remain constant. Countries like Germany and Japan have birth rates dramatically less than that.

Meanwhile, on average, each Muslim woman has an average of 3.1 children, significantly above the next-highest group (Christians at 2.7) and the average of all non-Muslims (2.3). Moreover, in all major regions where there is a sizable Muslim population, Muslim fertility exceeds non-Muslim fertility.

It doesn't take much economic, statistical, or mathematical prowess to predict how many 18-year-olds there will be in 15 years. The reason is that you start by counting the three-year-olds.

Tectonic shifts are happening. It's important to recognize them, and to understand the consequences.

Work On Your Business – Not In It

Just finished a management team offsite planning session.

Sometimes it's good to work on the business, rather than in it.

One of my core beliefs is that you are either growing or dying. Likewise, standing still is really falling behind. That is true due to the practical realities of time, technology, and progress.

Experienced entrepreneurs understand that cash is like oxygen. It doesn't matter how good the idea (or the business) seems, it has to exist to perform.

Performance is the key … and performing live, in real-time, with real customers, is different than thinking about (or planning) how you'd like to perform.

In a sense, live usage is like oxygen for ideas. You can never fully anticipate how the market (or a user) will react to something you’ve created — until it’s out there.

That means every moment you’re working on something (without it being in the public) it’s actually dying, deprived of the oxygen of the real world.

Of course, you can't release everything (because some things are potentially dangerous), but the game is won by moving forward.

Onwards!

There is a growing disconnect in the stock market

On Thursday, the Nasdaq closed at its highest since March 2000.

On Friday, the S&P 500 Index traded at its intraday high (above 2120).

So, all is good … right? We should 'party like it's 1999'.

Some traders are noticing the disconnect between price and money flow in the US stock market.

A Bank of America/Merrill Lynch survey points out that US investors pulled $79B out of equities, year to date — including net outflows in 9 of the past 10 weeks — despite stock prices continuing to break new record highs.

As this imbalance grows, are we in danger of a correction?
